How to use bicycle roads safely

Following the amendments made to the “Road Traffic Act” (March 27, 2018), cyclists riding their bicycles under the influence of alcohol will be penalized. Also, please be advised that safety helmets will become mandatory.

Important amendments to the Road Traffic Act (amended on March 27, 2018, enforced on September 28, 2018)
Clamp down/penalty against cyclists riding bicycles under the influence of alcohol (enforced on September 28, 2018)
 - If a cyclist rides his/her bicycle under the influence of alcohol, he/she will incur a fine of up to KRW 200,000 or face detention (Article 44 and Article 156)
 - Necessary actions can be ordered against a cyclist riding his/her bicycle under the influence of alcohol such as being prohibited from riding his/her bicycle and being moved to a different location (Article 47)
Mandatory use of safety helmets for cyclists (enforced on September 28, 2018)
 - When a cyclist rides his/her bicycle on a bicycle road or a road as defined by the "Road Act,” the cyclist and his/her passenger must wear a safety helmet (Article 50 Paragraph 4)
    · (Target) All cyclists and passengers
    · (Target Area) Bicycle lanes and roads defined in the “Road Act”
     → (Bicycle roads) Bicycle-only lanes, dual lanes for traffic of bicycles and pedestrians, bicycle-only roadway, bicycle priority roadway (Article 3 of the Promotion of the Use of Bicycles Act) 
     → (Roads according to the Road Act) national expressways, general national highways, special Metropolitan city roads and metropolitan city roads, local highways, si roads, gun roads, gu roads (Article 2 and Article10 of the Road Act)

The user can freely use the public work without fee,
and can change it to create secondary work,
but it is not permitted to use for commercial purpose.
